Tom Killion’s Thanksgiving Weekend Open Studio

Friday, Saturday & Sunday

Nov. 29-30 & Dec. 1, 11am - 5pm daily

Tom’s annual Open Studio event will take place on Thnaksgiving Weekend this year, as part of the Point Reyes Open Studios art tours. A large selection of Killion’s framed and unframed prints will be available, along with Notecard sets and Killion’s trade edition books and jigsaw puzzles. Visitors will be able to print their own keepsake print on SUNDAY only.

Parking is limited so please obey all parking instructions to avoid inconveniencing our neighbors. Be prepared to walk up and down steep hills. Persons with mobility issues please email in advance to make arrangements for special parking.

Bowers Museum: "Journey to Hokusai"

A Film about Tom’s journey to discover the world of 19th century Japanese master-artist Katsushika Hokusai, “Journey to Hokusai”, will be screened at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana on Sunday Afternoon Nov. 12 (following Killion’s [now sold out] printmaking workshop on Saturday.) Killion will be available for Q&A after the screening. It was filmed by Chikara Motomura in 2018, and includes footage of Killion’s struggle to learn the traditional art of moku hanga woodblock printing. Visit Tom at his Booth #62 in the redwoods of Old Mill Park, Mill Valley, Saturday Sept 23, 10-1PM (Tom will have to close early this day) and Sunday Sept. 24 10AM-5PM. Tom will be showing a wide selection of his original releif prints and enlarged format giclee prints, framed and unframed. This will be his last appearance at the Mill Valley Fall Arts Festival, where he started selling his art in the late 1960s as a Tam High student. Gary and Tom will discuss their many High Sierra collaborations and the importance of wilderness walking in their artistic work; Gary will read from his High Sierra poems and new and original writings, followed by a discussion of High Sierra-inspired art moderated by their friend and Sierra companion, Armando Quintero of UC Merced and the California Water Board. Booksigning will follow presentation, with their High Sierra books (and some of Tom’s original prints) for sale.

Journey to Hokusai: Film Project 2019

"Journey to Hokusai" by Chikara Motomura follows Tom Killion as he travels to Japan to study traditional hand-printing techniques in Kyoto, and visits places that inspired his artist-spirit mentor Hokusai.
